Why Fig?

11,000 years ago, a fig tree was planted.

And figs became the first domesticated crop in history. Fig Food celebrates the first organic farmer with 100% plant-based recipes made with only fresh, organic ingredients.

For your health and the earth’s.

Fig Food tastes yummy! We cook our soups to bring the most flavor to each spoonful, using real ingredients like minced garlic and chopped onion and authentic herbs like epazote. We even leave the peels on the diced Yukon Gold potatoes, because that’s where the most flavor and nutrition resides. You can taste the subtleties of the bean varietals, as we cook our beans simply with just water.

Fig Food is made of ingredients grown on North American farms, are 100% plant-based, certified organic and kosher. With no added sodium in the beans and only 200-290 mg of sodium per serving in the soups, Fig Food offers a delicious option for people seeking convenient, healthful choices.

We have 10 soup flavors and 7 bean varietals. All Fig Food packaging is BPA-Free, and the soups come in microwavable pouches for added ease.

Fig Food Co. addresses three of the most pressing issues Americans face today: health, fossil fuel independence and greenhouse gas emissions   Eating a higher percentage of plant-based food in your diet will improve your health and the health of the planet.

Important to the company’s mission are efforts to reduce America’s dependence upon fossil fuels. Organic agriculture requires 19% less energy than conventional agriculture for comparable production. In addition, encouraging people to eat more plant-based food can help reduce the proliferation of greenhouse gases and improve the environment, as current animal agricultural practices are responsible for 18% of total greenhouse gas emissions, a higher share than the total transportation industry.

Whether as a bowl of soup or as an ingredient, Fig Food makes your meal a delicious and healthy one. Clean Eating magazine has recognized our commitment with “Clean Choice Awards” for 2 consecutive years.

Fig Food Co.’s embrace of the tenets to improve our world are exemplified through its certification as a B-corporation. As a B-corp, we make the following “Declaration of Interdependence”:

We envision a new sector of the economy which harnesses the power of private enterprise to create public benefit. This sector is comprised of a new type of corporation —the B Corporation — which is purpose-driven, and creates benefit for all stakeholders, not just shareholders.

As members of this emerging sector and as entrepreneurs and investors in B Corporations, we hold these truths to be self-evident:

That we must be the change we seek in the world.

That all business ought to be conducted as if people and place mattered.

That, through their products, practices, and profits, businesses should aspire to do no harm and benefit all.

To do so, requires that we act with the understanding that we are each dependent upon another and thus responsible for each other and future generations.
